This morning, I saw where Lebron James' girlfriend is due to give birth one day next week, a day that James' team has a game scheduled. He said emphatically that if the baby does come on a game day, he would not attend the birth, and instead would play in the game. I have also recently heard Jeff Gordon say that if he needs to miss a race to attend the birth of his upcoming child, he would do so. Tiger Woods' wife is due to give birth during the British Open next month, and he has said he would skip it in order to be there for the birth.

There was a time when athletes rarely took time off from their sports to attend the birth of their children. The prevailing attitude was that the game was more important than the family. Then, a hockey player's wife died while giving birth, with the hockey player on the road. Attitudes began to shift, and now it is common for athletes to miss games in order to witness the birth of their children. In this light, I am incredulous that James, or anyone else, would miss the birth of a child in order to play. That seems screwed up.

Interesting reasons and analysis.

However, this is not like 1 golf tournament. These are the finals and if LeBron misses one game it is simple. The Cavs loose that game.

That being said, the accelerated growth curve of LeBron is amazing.

Michael Jordon, Warren Buffett and half the world want to hang and praise LeBron.

It's going to be an amazing NBA Championship and next couple of years for him.

Over the years, I have gotten a few "anon" comments on the blog. Whenever I do, I am tempted to delete the comment, since I feel that a comment without a name behind it is not worthy of consideration. However, realizing the need for dialogue in the world, I have always left them up.

That said, I think James (and many other people) who have tiny "circles of concern" are either blinded by hubris or unreservedly selfish to live in that fashion.

It should be noted that in the same interview I speak of, James said that he felt his girlfriend understands how much he loves his teammates and how much they need him. So, is he saying that he loves his teammates more than he loves his girlfriend or their child? It seems so to me.

Remember that recently, when asked to name a member of his team other than himself, he asked reporters to give him "just a second", then stammered, "Well, um, let's see, they got... LeBron James, so that's one", extending his thumb to represent the number of players he had named thus far.

So, as we can see, Lebron James is indeed the moral compass by which we should steer our lives. LOL.

Peace,

Chris
